It's my belief that if you give your body support it will return in kind. I've been getting CranioSacral Therapy since 2002 on a pretty consistent basis (every 2-3 weeks except when my physiotherapist takes off to train the Canadian Women's Olympic Soccer team!). It's one of a number of light-touch therapies that she uses to help my body transition into new states and ways of being. Like body psychotherapy it is a titrated therapy.

It's pretty hard to achieve your intentions if your nervous system is amped up. CranioSacral Therapy (much like body psychotherapy) brings balance to the nervous system. If you're receiving strictly "talk therapy" I'd encourage to find a body-based practitioner who will help you modulate what get's stirred up in your therapy. As a complement to any kind of psychotherapy or counseling, you can't beat it.

The following blurb is compliments of Vancouver Physiotherapy.

The CranioSacral System has a palpable rhythm that can be felt throughout the body just like the pulse of the Cardiovascular System. Trained CranioSacral therapists use a gentle, hands-on method to evaluate and monitor this rhythm at key body points to locate the source of a restriction in the system.

The CranioSacral System is a recognised physiological system in the body comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

The Craniosacral System extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth (which make up the Cranium) down to the tailbone area (or Sacrum)

CranioSacral Therapy (C.S.T.) works by helping the body's natural healing mechanisms dissipate the negative effects of stress on the Central Nervous System. This stress can be caused by such conditions as direct injury to the body (collision, falls or sports injury) as well as the adaptive compensation of the body's tissues to injury, illness, surgery and birth trauma. C.S.T. is a safe and gentle approach that can be used for clients of all ages, including infants and children.

C.S.T. uses a 'whole body' approach to identify the pattern of change that can occur to the body's tissue structure as a result of injury, trauma or illness. C.S.T. is a particularly useful approach for clients whose symptoms have not responded to other treatment methods.
