Holistic medical systems are based on a strong base of theory and practice that sometimes span hundreds of years of study. These systems were often developed completely apart from the Western conventional medicine we know today.
Some of these practices were developed in the east (e.g. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda) and others evolved more recently in the west (e.g. Homeopathic and Naturopathic).
